The 2024 PACK EXPO International Packaging Trade Show will be held from November 3 to November 6, 2024, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois (2301 S King Dr, Chicago, IL 60616), USA. Organized by the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies (PMMI), this exhibition is one of the largest packaging industry trade shows in North America, taking place annually and alternating between Chicago and Las Vegas.

The event will cover an exhibition area of 120,000 square meters, expecting to attract around 48,000 visitors and host 2,400 exhibitors and brands. The main exhibition areas will include packaging machinery, packaging materials, packaging design, packaging automation, logistics, and transportation.

PACK EXPO is not only a platform to showcase the latest packaging products and technologies but also offers a series of seminars and forums to provide exhibitors and attendees with insights into the latest trends and innovations in the packaging industry. It serves as a significant opportunity for industry professionals to learn about market trends, products, and technologies, as well as to exchange experiences and establish business connections.

The United States, as the world's only superpower today, holds significant influence both economically and militarily. In recent years, despite global economic challenges, the U.S. economy has remained relatively stable, supported by various economic stimulus plans that enhance economic vitality and growth, reinforcing its position as a global economic leader.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, from January to October 2013, the total value of U.S. goods imports and exports was $3,207.56 billion, an increase of 0.6% compared to the same period in the previous year. Exports amounted to $1,311.19 billion, up 2.1%, while imports were $1,896.36 billion, down 0.4%, leading to a trade deficit reduction of 5.5%. During this period, the bilateral trade in goods between the U.S. and China totaled $458.52 billion, a 4.0% increase. China was the United States' second-largest trading partner, third-largest export market, and largest source of imports.

The U.S.'s primary trading partners include Canada, China, Mexico, and Japan, with about $1.1 billion worth of products traded daily among these nations. The U.S. economy is highly developed, with many global currencies pegged to the U.S. dollar. Currently, the production of packaging equipment is growing fastest in developing countries and regions. Developed countries are benefiting from stimulating domestic demand while seeking suitable local manufacturers in developing countries, particularly investing in food processing plants and providing packaging machinery.

In the field of labeling and cartoning machines, where technology is more advanced, Chinese-manufactured machinery may still struggle to compete with products from Germany, Italy, and Japan. However, in products with lower technical requirements, Chinese-made equipment already meets the needs of the U.S. market and is likely to make significant progress in the short term. Especially in general-purpose packaging equipment, such as shrink-wrapping machines and wrapping machines, Chinese-made products cost less than half of their American counterparts and have a strong competitive edge. Low prices serve as the best entry point for Chinese packaging machinery into the U.S. market. In fact, some American companies are already outsourcing production to China, with some of the products manufactured there being exported back to the U.S. market.
