Packaging Industry Shines at 2025 PIDA Awards Gala

It was a dazzling evening of celebration and recognition as packaging professionals from across Australia and New Zealand gathered at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth on 6 May for the 2025 Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards gala.

Hosted annually by the Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP), the PIDA Awards honour exceptional achievements in packaging design and innovation. The event celebrates the individuals and companies driving excellence and sustainability across the industry.

Welcoming over 280 attendees, AIP President John Bigley praised the region’s consistent success on the world stage, highlighting Australasia’s strong performance at the WorldStar Awards—including a top-three placement streak spanning the past four years.

With finalists and supporters filling the room with excitement, awards were presented across multiple categories, including Food Packaging Design, Beverage Packaging Design, Health, Beauty & Wellness, and Sustainable Packaging Design.

The evening’s standout performer was Woolworths, which claimed three gold awards and one silver across several categories.

In addition to design excellence, the 2025 ceremony spotlighted professional achievements. Notable recognitions included the AIP President’s Award, Industry Packaging Professional of the Year, and the AIP Distinguished Service Award. The next generation of industry leaders was also honoured through the ABA Scholarship Program, which awarded Diplomas and Certificates in Packaging Technology.

All winners from the 2025 PIDA Awards will now qualify for entry into the prestigious 2026 WorldStar Packaging Awards, representing the region on the global stage.

As Bigley emphasized, the PIDA Awards are more than a celebration—they are a catalyst for progress, fostering innovations that balance functionality, sustainability, and consumer appeal. As the exclusive qualifying platform for the WorldStar Awards, the PIDA program sets the standard for packaging excellence in Australasia.
